Position Overview

As a contributor to the Public Relations Department, the Bilingual Communications Specialist is responsible for leadership and technical expertise in delivering Public Relations, Marketing and Communications results in French markets (i.e., Quebec) that support the strategic plan of the National Payroll Institute. By ensuring that all French language PR, communications and marketing products are of the highest quality and will resonate with francophone audiences, this individual materially enhances the Institute's brand recognition and reputation and helps to accelerate growth with regard to membership, Professional Development registrations, and Designation holders.

As the Public Relations Department supports all other departments, this individual also provides strategic communications counsel and support to the Institute's Executive and Management teams and demonstrates leadership as the French communications representative on cross-functional project teams.

What you will be doing

French Member Communications:

o Writes and/or updates, edits, proofreads, and provides strategic communications advice on the Institute's communication and marketing publications and materials (i.e., Media Kit, Conference Collaterals, Product and Services Guide, member e-blasts) and other content (i.e., day-to-day member communications, advocacy and compliance related information) in French, such that it is error-free and will effectively deliver messaging with the intended tone and impact to francophone audiences.

o Help manage the National Payroll Institute's broadcast email calendar, ensuring all content undergoes required approvals and is ready for publication in French.

o Crafts communication project plans, scripts, speeches and presentations in support of the Institute's key networking and education events in the Quebec Market and/or for French audiences (i.e., National Conference and Trade Show, National Payroll Week Events, Certification Recognition Events, etc.) and helps identify photography and videography requirements, if required.

External Communications:

o Writes and/or updates, edits, proofreads, and provides strategic communications advice related to advertising content and advertorials for media properties popular with the National Payroll Institute's members, stakeholders, strategic alliances and influence audiences (i.e., accounting, bookkeeping and human resources) in Quebec.

o French writing for press releases and advertising.

o Supports the National Payroll Institute's public relations and social media programs.

o Collaborates with other departments to support their annual business objectives through expert French language communications.

o Participates in content updates to the Institute's website, including working with department managers to ensure their French language pages on the corporate website are up-to-date and reflect the current value proposition, benefit statements, key messages, brand positioning, and product/service positioning.

o Works closely with the Manager, Public Relations to ensure the Institute's key messages are consistently reflected in all media.

o Help to lead French language communications, PR and marketing strategies.

o Contributes content to the Institute's social media platform and accounts, including Twitter and LinkedIn.

o Provides strategic communications advice on French language communication plans, project proposals, and critical paths to reflect the Institute's key messages and PR strategies.

Project Management:

o Collaborating with departmental colleagues, the Bilingual Communications Specialist project manages departmental projects to ensure they are delivered on time and on budget, with appropriate reviews and approvals before launch.

o Management of the Institute's French translation process, including identifying translation consultants, liaising with translation consultants, negotiating deadlines, and reviewing and approving translations after delivery.

o Manages relationships with key French language/Quebec consultants

Consultative / Subject Matter Expertise:

o Participate in intra-departmental and cross-departmental strategic brainstorming and assist with developing strategies targeting the Quebec market.

o Provide subject matter expertise concerning French language communications to all Institute departments, ensuring all communications products are positioned to enhance the National Payroll Institute's reputation.

o Conduct needs assessments to determine ideal approaches and strategies for bilingual communications requirements.

o Effectively present concepts and strategies to management and colleagues throughout the organization to gain support for proposals.

Financial:

o Contributes to the development of the department's annual operational plan and budget, ensuring that all standards established by the President and policies of the Board are adhered to.

Some of the qualifications and skills we are looking for include:

o Fluently bilingual English and French, both written and spoken, is required.

o Post-secondary education - University degree in Communication and/or Journalism and/or Public Relations diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution

o Minimum of 3-5 years of communication and marketing experience in a French or bilingual role.

o A demonstrable portfolio of work that showcases expertise with regard to the development and delivery of comprehensive communications strategies in French.

o A self-starter who takes personal responsibility to get the job done.

o Collaborative by nature, this individual knows how to combine their creative vision with the vision of others.

o Exercises good judgment.

o Professional writing and proofreading.

o Advanced computer skills in the following: Word, PowerPoint.

o Intermediate knowledge and experience in traditional and digital Communications and Marketing tactics and tools.

o Some experience working with online technologies (i.e., HTML, email management systems, content management systems, etc.) is an asset.

o Some experience working with social media community management and reporting platforms (e.g., SproutSocial, Hootsuite) is an asset.

o Demonstrated proficiency using design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is an asset.

Core Working Days & Flexible Work Program
