Northstar Access Corporation is the premier provider of scaffolding, shoring, swing stages, and other temporary access solutions in Canada. Since 2012, Northstar has expanded from its original location in Southern Ontario with ~20 employees, and now operates from 6 branches across Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia, employing more than 400 experienced professionals. Northstar is currently looking for an experienced scaffolding National Director of Business Development to join our team.

Reporting to the President/CEO of Northstar, the National Director of Business Development is focused on growing Northstar's business, at the national level, by identifying and developing profitable business opportunities, building, and expanding brand presence and developing sustainable long-term business sales growth strategies. This includes expanding into new geographies, new customers and customer segments, as well as new product lines and solutions.

The National Director of Business Development will be responsible for developing and executing a structured national go-to-market approach, guiding a cross-functional team (Business Development Managers, Sales and Marketing), managing existing partnerships and will be a key contributor to achieving company growth business goals. Travel to other locations will be a key aspect of the role.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Propose and develop strategic plan to drive revenue growth and meet long-term business objectives.
  • Build relationships with existing and new customers and business partners.
  • Develop and strengthen internal and external relationships that will lead to increased growth opportunities and lead generation.
  • Lead the business development and marketing teams to develop business partnerships, identify sales relationships and develop business growth strategies at a national level, while supporting regional and local initiatives with guidance and expertise.
  • Set personal and team goals for business growth.
  • Responsible for creation (with legal support) and negotiation of larger customer contracts and/or service agreements
  • Assist President/CEO and CFO in new business acquisitions.
  • Work with corporate team to successfully launch new branches across Canada.
  • Manage marketing coordinator and oversee marketing campaigns to generate business growth leads.
  • Preparing all documentation required for RFP's.
  • Track and research emerging markets, trends and make recommendations to President/CEO.
  • Effectively use and identify the right information sources and databases, as well as CRM systems, to support data-driven business development activities.
  • Foster and work to maintain an entrepreneurial growth culture.
  • Conduct presentations to raise the brand and product profile.
  • Comply with all corporate policies and business practices.
  • Attending industry events, trade shows, and local gatherings to expand professional network and represent brand at national level.
  • Cold calling and site visits to generate new leads and client accounts with large general contractors and small builders alike, follow-up and close sales opportunities.
  • Work closely with Estimators to prepare RFP's, quotations, and contracts.
  • Serve as the primary ?point of contact? for new national accounts (first-time) or large new regional/local customers during initial project execution, serving customer needs and requests and troubleshooting when/if required.

Position Qualifications:

  • 5+ years in leadership, supervisory and management experience and 10+ years in sales and marketing experience.
  • Experience in a high-growth distribution/ construction/ industrial/ manufacturing company would be an asset but not required.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must possess valid driver's license in good standing.
  • University degree or college diploma in business administration, marketing or related filed would be an asset, but not required.

  • Ability to make sound decisions independently to obtain desired results.
  • Create and maintain an environment that promotes positive communication while fostering teamwork within the company.
  • Self-starter, who is comfortable navigating ambiguity and changing demands.
  • Action oriented, with ability to take ownership of opportunities and challenges
  • Service oriented with strong customer interaction skills and commitment.
  • Persistence and knowledge of scaffolding and/or construction industry, rental equipment environment, is a strong asset.
